Marmomacc Meets Design Architecture Zone

Marmomacc has always been in the avant-garde in the search for new applications of stone in design.  Four years ago, it launched an annual collaboration bringing together internationally famous designers and production companies with the capability of implementing challenging concepts conceived by some of the world’s leading architects.

The Marmomacc Meets Design exhibition is the experimentation of these people in exploring specialist themes within the design and architecture of interiors, routine objects, the domestic environment and studies into stone surfaces.

“The Lightness of marble” in 2007 was followed by “Skin, Texture” in 2008, “Hybrid and Flexible” in 2009 and the most recent topic “Irregular-Exceptional” in 2010.

Over these years more than 33 architects and designers have unleashed all their creativity, backed up by the know-how and technological input of 28 companies.

Some of the architects include: Kengo Kuma, Claudio Silvestrin, Alberto Campo Baeza, Manuel Aires Mateus, Patricia Urquiola, Tobia Scarpa, Marco Piva, James Irvine, Tomas Alonso, Aldo Cibic, Thomas Sandell, Michele De Lucchi.

Some of the experimental companies include:  Budri, Marsotto, Pibamarmi, MGM Furnari, Il Casone, Testi Fratelli, Grassi Pietre.

A selection of these projects is available to view in the Marmomacc Meets Design Architectural Zone (Area F50) and include collaboration from the following companies:

Lithos  Design

Lithos Design, a young team with great expertise in the design of stone, began as the R&D division of Bevilacqua Marmi, an historic company with three decades of experience. The two firms are still closely linked. Through the use of very advanced technological machinery and highly skilled staff, Lithos Design makes innovation and design its mission, taking advantage of the experience it has gained in the sector collaborating with an outstanding designer, Raffaello Galiotto. Specialized in industrial design for decoration, Galiotto approached the stone industry with a spirit of experimentation and innovation, contributing consistently to the development of the guidelines presented in this catalogue.

Marmi Serafini

A marble object that brights its setting and highlights our own concept of design: patterns balance, new ideas investigations, and cutting-edge crafting.

The company largely invests in forefront technology: advanced software programmes provide useful help to create complex surface workmanships.

Thus, it makes all types and sizes of manufactures possible. Breakthrough technology coupled with a young group with innovative ideas mirror MARMI SERAFINI’s dynamism and spirit.

Testi

The lightness of marble, in this project, means discovering how to make it transparent and as sharp as a knife blade. Marble is also a material traditionally used in kitchens, for working and kneading. TESTI with this project presents a small tanslucent kitchen countertop, processed from a single block, equipped with another surface housing  a set of marble knives.

Trentino Sprint

Italy is a territory rich in traditions, natural landscapes and realities which speak the language of history and nature. Trentino is part of this territory – in particular, Trentino stones and the men who work them, transforming nature into artefact, represent a unique heritage which has resisted the standardizing effects of globalization.

In 2002 starts the project “Stone: old and new approaches to Trentino Stone”, which develops along a cultural and architectural path, revealing the tools and a series of “age-old” materials, which still have a relevance today, and in particular the results recently achieved with the implementation of construction projects and cultural initiatives which have involved the “men of stone”, architects, designers, University students from all over the world, and photographers. The objective of supporting and relaunching a product which historically has played, and continues to play, an important role in Trentino's economy has proceeded hand in hand with constant reference to the creative aspect. This is why for the first time, this year Trentino Sprint, the Special Agency of the Trento Chamber of Commerce, decided to be present at “The Natural Stoneshow” supporting some companies of the stone sector: Odorizzi Porfidi, Industria Marmi Alberti and Stone Company. (F50a, G1). The meaning of project is an extremely valuable undertaking, which not only highlights the memory of the past but also suggests new ways ahead for the future.
