Natural Stone & Building Conservation Conference 2013

Admission to the Conference is free of charge, with entry guaranteed through visitor registration to the Natural Stone Show.

Taking place in the stunning South Gallery Rooms overlooking the Royal Victoria Dock, The Natural Stone & Building Conservation Conference has established itself as an important event in the stone industry calendar.

Offering accredited CPD for delegates, the 5th edition of the Conference will maintain its objective of bringing together all of those who have an interest in the design and use of stone as a building material.

The 2013 Conference programme will be available from the autumn of 2012.

Day 1 Sustainability

A debate was held on overcoming the challenges facing architects and designers in fulfilling sustainability criteria when designing, building and specifying with stone and discovering how to source stone in a socially responsible and ethical manner. Case studies were presented explained how cleaning, fixing and maintaining stone is becoming greener discovering the most sustainable options for using stone as a building material.

Day 2 New Build

Stone Federation Great Britain presented their RIBA CPD accredited Stone in the City seminar in the morning providing an overview on the use of stone from the selection process to the finished project. In the afternoon, there was a unique opportunity to hear from the architects and stone professionals involved in recently recognised Projects of Excellence including 264-267 Tottenham Court Road, Canon Bridge House, Liverpool Canal Link & Pier Head and 20 Gresham Street, London.

Day 3 Conservation

The final day was dedicated to stone conservation and was overseen by English Heritage and the English Stone Forum. Themes explored included selecting the correct stone for building repair and a strategic overview of our indigenous stones.
